Santa Fe River Turtle Project

The Santa Fe River Turtle Project is a documentary short which follows a research-study conducted by scientists and volunteers on the population health of the 14-different species of freshwater turtles, living in the Santa Fe River Basin. It also inspects the human impact on the spring system, where these turtles call home. The Santa Fe River Turtle Project examines the challenges these turtles face and the unique ecosystem they live in.

In 2019, a genetic study revealed that the Suwannee Cooter is actually part of a wide-ranging species called the River Cooter. Ongoing studies of this turtle will continue to provide critical information about the health of the Santa Fe River ecosystem.
